At the end of my classes that I teach at Lotus Yoga and Fitness in Ormond Beach , I ask my students to end their practice by "repeating their own mantra, affirmation or prayer". I truly believe that our thoughts and words are powerful vehicles to change our lives. If we put INTENTION and ACTION behind our words and thoughts we can re-wire the way we think and act over time, with practice.
Personally, I repeat two specific mantras every day, and add others as they fit into what is happening in my life. The two mantras I repeat every day is "Do your Practice" (from Guruji's Do your Practice and All is Coming) and "Trust the process". I even have "Do Your Practice" embroidered on my yoga mat as a visual reminder! For me, this specific mantra is incredibly meaningful because it reminds me to stay with my practice of living a yogic life, of speaking kindly to myself without judgement, exercising daily, doing my yoga and meditation practice every day, eating mindfully, etc. One cannot DO "something" occasionally and expect to reap the benefits of it. One must do something every day for it to become engrained and have a lasting effect.
My second Mantra, "trust the process", allows me to let go of how how I think things SHOULD be, to let go of controlling situations or outcomes, and surrendering to the idea that everything really does work out the way it is supposed to work out. This is NOT easy, but with daily practice, over time, the impossible becomes possible !
I have attached a great article on what mantras are and how to use them. I hope you enjoy the article, and invite you to find your own mantra. Write it down and put it somewhere that you can see it every day, and repeat it with intention!
